There was actually one true thing that Chisato always enjoyed when she still lived with Takina. It was also the one thing she would never ever tell her, because she’d start being aware of it.
It was that one thing that she craved, more than the delicious healthy meals. Chisato was never one to wake up early, but if she were to live with Takina forever, she might as well become a morning person.
What is that you mean?
Takina’s sleep talking combined with a sprinkle of honesty.
“Takina-san~ It’s morning~”
“Yes, I’m aw…a…ke…”
“Takina-san, do you like Chisato?”
“…Y…es…”
“Sooo cute.” Chisato grinned to herself as she watched Takina sleep next to her. Head propped up on her hand, elbow leaning on the bed. “Takina-san~ What’s your favorite food?”
“…Chisato’s… pancakes… mmm…” Takina turned around, her back now facing Chisato as she answered unknowingly.
“Ahhhhh. Now that’s going to be today’s breakfast.” Chisato kept a smile on her face as she watched Takina sleep. She might start noticing if I ask another so that’ll be it today…
The test was always “Do you like Chisato?” and that’s where the ball gets rolling.
It all started when Takina stayed over the first time.
Even though Chisato already mentioned that they’d be notified if someone tried to infiltrate, Takina still insisted on taking turns when sleeping and one would stay on guard.
Chisato stood up from her chair and stretched her arms. She walked towards the bedroom and was glad to find Takina actually sleeping.
“Takina.” Chisato called to her softly as she crouched near the bed to take a peek at her sleeping face, while Takina slept on her side. “Takina~”
“Mm… Chi…” Takina opened her mouth to say something but the rest were inaudible.
“Hm? Did you say something?” Chisato moved closer to Takina’s face in an attempt to hear what she was saying, then a thought popped in her head. “…Takina, do you like the cafe?”
Chisato waited a while for the answer, then a low and airy “…Yes.” came afterwards. She smiled at the success.
“So you’re more honest sleeping than awake…” Chisato giggled with a quite nishishishi. “Do you like sweets, Takina-san?”
“…Mm… ones… Chisato… gave…” Takina turned around to the other side as Chisato fell on all fours next to the bed.
“How adorable can you get??? You like the sweets that I give you??? Takina-saaaaan.” Chisato clutched her heart at this adorable display. “If I had heartbeats, it’d probably be racing faster than mach5 right now…”
Then, the one thought Chisato was never brave enough to ask went into her head. Should she ask it? She’s sleeping, it should do no harm, right?
“Do you like Chisato?”
“…Yes…”
Chisato closed her eyes as she turned her back from the bed. Of course, there’s no way in knowing if it was a ‘friend like’ or a ‘love like’. Chisato smiled in relief, at least, she didn’t dislike her.
“Mm… Chisato?”
“Eh?” Chisato turned around and saw an adorable Inoue Takina rubbing her eyes of sleep. “Eh? Ah. G- Good morning.”
“Why are you standing over there?” Takina closed her eyes for a moment, then slowly sat up from the bed. “Is it time to change?”
“Y- Yeah.” Chisato smiled at her. “I’ll go get changed in the bathroom, you can change here.”
Takina only nodded, one of her hair sticking out to the side of her head.
Her ruffled hair is so cute… Takina’s so cute…
“Chisato.” The Takina in the present spoke as she sat up from bed. “Chisato, you have a really stupid smile on your face right now.”
“Ah, whoa! Good morning?” Chisato almost fell from her side of the bed as the person who had just answered ‘pancakes’ was suddenly staring at her with a glare. “Sorry. Did I wake you?”
“I felt a presence next to me so I opened my eyes… Although I felt like I was talking to someone… Did you say something while I was sleeping?” Takina looked at Chisato suspiciously.
“No? All I did was call your name.” Chisato lied to her teeth, sitting up from the bed trying to avoid those inquisitive eyes.
“Why were you looking so intently at my face? Was I drooling?” Takina immediately checked her face.
“…Funny you’d be concerned about drooling.” Chisato smiled mischievously at her as she got up from the bed and stretched her arms above her.
“…I didn’t want to show a lazy part of myself…” Takina looked away as she removed the covers from her body and put her legs down the side of the bed, eyeing every single one of Chisato’s actions.
Chisato smiled at her. “Even if you’re drooling or not, I’d still think you’re cute.”
Takina only glared at her for a moment before looking away with a light blush on her cheeks. “Are you cooking breakfast? Should I help?”
“I’ll be fine. Go get ready?” Chisato walked towards the door and opened it. “Come to the kitchen when you’re done.”
“Okay.” Takina nodded as Chisato closed the door.
“Well… I’m glad she let go of the topic about talking to someone in her sleep.” Chisato immediately went for the cupboard and took out a carton of pancake mix. “Wouldn’t want her to find out, then I won’t have my fun anymore~”
Takina still sat on the bed as she tried to think carefully about the events prior to her waking up. “I still felt like someone was talking to me…” She looked at the closed door. “I don’t think Chisato has a reason to lie about talking to me in my sleep. Or maybe…?”
And so, Chisato’s habit of talking to Takina in her sleep continued. Maybe one day, she’ll find out?

Omake
“…Pancakes?” Takina sat down on the table as Chisato laid down a two piece pancake plate in front of her. “Why, so suddenly?”
“I just suddenly felt like making some.” Chisato smiled at her as she laid down another plate of pancakes for herself. “Do you not feel like eating pancakes today?”
“I find it incredibly odd because I was actually feeling like it today…” Takina eyed Chisato suspiciously.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“…Did you really not say anything to me while I was sleeping?”
“Totally not at all. If I was guilty of something, it would be watching your pretty face, officer~”
Takina laughed at the random response. “What’s with that?”
“Pretending that you’re trying to apprehend me.” Chisato stuck a tongue out at her. “Why are you so worried about it?”
“…I felt like I was saying some really embarrassing things.” Takina looked away as she took a knife from the side and looked at the pancake.
“…I don’t think I heard anything that was supposed to be embarrassing?”
“…So I did say something.”
“What? No!”
“…Chisato?”
“Wha! Not the knife! Don’t point a knife at people.”
“I’m sure you’d be able to dodge it anyway.”
“I will! I know! I can! But I feel like I shouldn’t be! Ahh!”
“Chisato!”
