“What’s wrong with that?” Mizuki pointed with her mouth as Chisato yawned from the cafe counter and turned to the direction she pointed at.
It was Takina and Kurumi in the corner of the cafe who seemed to be fighting about something. Hmm… Kurumi and Takina… fighting?
“…You’re right. I’ve just been so worn out lately… Wait, Takina’s having a fight with Kurumi?” Chisato’s eyes suddenly widened as she turned to them.
“You should stop having mind blowing sex every night, it seems to actually be blowing your brains out.” Mizuki downed a cup of sake as Chisato’s elbow slid off the edge of the table hitting her arm on it.
“Ow… We aren’t. Kusunoki-san’s been slaving me everyday! If only it were mind blowing sex with Takina… it’s been a while though. We’ve both just been really busy.” Chisato yawned again until a fragrant scent of freshly brewed coffee awakened her senses. “Ooohhh! Is this a new blend?”
Mika who just arrived with a cup of coffee smiled at her. “Yeah. Give it a try.”
“Ohhhh! Is this a Blue Mountain? That’s so good!” Chisato grinned as she smelled the coffee before taking another sip. “Ehh~ This is so different what we usually have.”
“It’s thanks to that.” Mika turned his gaze to Takina and Kurumi who were still at a heated argument.
“As I’ve said, this was going to be a better option!” Takina adamantly touched the screen as Kurumi shook her head fervently.
“If we take this option, we’re going to lose more money than if we do this, and get the same product.” Kurumi answered calmly as she clicked something.
“But we won’t be getting the same quality as…” Takina suddenly covered her mouth with a hand as she tapped Kurumi’s shoulders and immediately ran towards the toilet.
“Ah, Takina–” Chisato put her cup down and hopped off the stool as she followed her, at the same time the door to the cafe opened as Fuki stood in front of her. “Fuki! Give me a moment, Takina–“
“It’s an emergency, we need to go.”
“This is an emergency too!” Chisato glared at Fuki who only stared her down. “…Fine.”
“I’ll check on her.” Mizuki sighed as Chisato only nodded at her.
“Is she okay?” Kurumi raised an eyebrow at her.
“I do ask her but she just says that she just hasn’t been feeling well, but won’t say anything else… She’s going to Yamagishi-sensei today.” Chisato picked up her bag and hoisted it over her back. “…So I have to slave for Kusunoki-san and go to some missions… Instead of being able to take care of her.” She turned around to look for her. “Sensei~”
Mika eyed the same door Takina had just disappeared to. “I’ll tell her you asked her to accompany Takina to the doctor’s place. Be careful now.”
“They better be careful of me because I am gonna pulverize them…” Chisato glared at the door to LycoReco as she balled a fist and hit it on her palm before slouching forward. “I miss my Takina time…”
“Just a bit more. It’s only until the end of the week right?” Mika turned to Chisato who nodded. “Good luck there.”
While the lycoris being active only until they are adults, it took a lot of convincing from Mika’s side and Kusunoki’s side (within her own means) to keep Chisato and Takina on active duty despite being already in their early twenties.
Chisato didn’t want to do it with something like ‘I’m not a teen anymore, I can’t wear uniforms~’ but mostly she wanted to just settle down and do menial missions with Takina, and maybe make a family.
Although most of their missions are to back up the new lycoris in missions, Kusunoki still loved sending Chisato in the middle of gunfire to make use of her talent.
Mizuki rubbed Takina’s back as she held up some of her hair away from touching the toilet seat as the black haired girl threw up.
“…Thank you very much.” Takina took the towel that Mizuki offered to her as she wiped her mouth.
“You haven’t told Chisato?” Mizuki raised an eyebrow as Takina only looked at her briefly, with surprise, before shaking her head. “You think I won’t notice?”
“It’s… I suppose.” Takina nodded as she and Mizuki stood up from beside the toilet seat and flushed it. The two of them walked towards the kitchen as Mizuki supported her to a chair. “…I thought I was hiding it well…”
“You can only hide these things from people who aren’t interested in getting married and having children. Also known as not me.” Mizuki took a cup from the cupboard and filled it with water before handing it to Takina. “How far along are you?”
Takina only looked at Mizuki and sipped some water. “Six weeks.” She answered quietly as she continued drinking the water.
“That’s right before Chisato started becoming busy. What happened?” Mizuki leaned her waist onto the counter as Takina only looked at her.
“…We both know we might not see each other for a while and may have gotten a little…” Takina turned away with a blush. “…careless.”
“So you forgot to drink birth control and lo and behold here comes the little one?” Mizuki only looked at Takina who only gave her a small smile.
“…That’s it.” Takina frowned as she looked at the cup of water in her hand. “I’m afraid of what Chisato would say…”
“That’s a weird worry you have there.” Mizuki smiled. “Ah, well, I’d say I’d blame that on the mood swings.”
“I suppose.” Takina nodded. “Mizuki-san…”
“Chisato’s going to take it like a champ. I’m sure you know that too.”
“I do.” Takina smiled.
“Then better be at it.” Mizuki stretched her arms over her head as she walked away. “Also, congratulations.”
“Thank you.”

“Ahhchoo!” Chisato sneezed as Fuki looked over the collapsed bodies around them, making sure their hands are tied. “Is someone talking bad about me?”
“Might be me, in my brain.” Fuki chided as she counted bodies. She pressed her in-ear comms. “All perpetrators accounted for. Send in the cleaners.”
“Fuki…” Chisato looked outside the abandoned building as the sun started setting in a beautiful orange. “You think Takina would say yes to me?”
“You think an omega would turn down a marriage proposal from the alpha they’re bound to?” Fuki raised an eyebrow as she looked at Chisato.
“I meaaaan, yeah, nooo, but I still feel a bit nervous.” Chisato gave Fuki a wry smile. “Not having to do these missions would be a big change for the both of us… I was more afraid she’d turn me down because it’s too early or something.” She fished a box from her pocket and opened it as a beautiful amethyst stone on a silver ring rested in the center of the ring’s radiant design.
Fuki only looked at her for a while before turning to the sunset as well. “You’re turning 25 soon. I think that’s a good time to settle down from all of this, and be a normal person.”
“Hm~ How about you? Not planning on doing that soon?” Chisato turned to Fuki who only shrugged.
“I’m still seeking ideas.” Fuki raised an eyebrow at Chisato with a small smile. “Stop bringing your ring to missions you might lose it.”
“I feel better having it with me!”
“Don’t blame me if you lose it!”
“I won’t lose it!”

Chisato stared at Kusunoki who was reading the performance reported she had just handed in.
“Well?” Chisato crossed her arms in front of her tapping her feet impatiently as she waited.
“Good work.” Kusunoki nodded and put down the clipboard and looked at Chisato. “As promised, once you have a wedding date, your retirement is finalized.”
“Good, good.” Chisato nodded. “Kusunoki-san.”
“What?” Kusunoki raised an eyebrow. She watched Chisato bow at her.
“Thank you very much.” Chisato lifted her head up and smiled. “Since my license doesn’t expire until the end of the year, I can still keep it right?”
Kusunoki smiled as she scoffed. “You’re still a brat.”
“I’m a full-fledged adult!” Chisato made face at her before turning around to leave.
“Chisato.”
“Hm?”
“Congratulations.”
Chisato blinked in confusion. “Thank… you?”
Kusunoki only stared at her before turning to the clipboard as Chisato exited her office on confusion. She turned to look at the paper on top of it.

“Takina~ Takina~” Chisato hopped gleefully towards the fake door to safe house 1 as Takina walked ahead of her. “It’s been a while since we last went home together…”
“That’s true.” Takina smiled at her warmly as she opened the door and went inside.
Chisato went in first, descending down the stairs as she waited for Takina to completely get down first before engulfing her in a very warm and tight hug.
“Mm~~~~~~” Chisato buried her face onto Takina’s neck as they embraced. “Your heat is coming soon, right? Your scent’s still a bit light. Is everything okay?”
“Mm. Chisato, shall we get some dinner and clean up first?” Takina parted from the hug as Chisato nodded.
After a normal evening, of finally being able to see each other and not completely missing each other because of Chisato being called to missions, and Takina being busy with the cafe, they could finally have some time to each other.
Takina sat on one side of the couch as Chisato brought down a bowl of assorted fruits and settled it down the center of the living room table.
“Takina…” Chisato sat down the couch, an arm around Takina’s shoulders as she leaned in for a kiss.
Takina dodged the kiss with a hand on Chisato’s mouth. “Wait a moment, before I forget things…”
Chisato only looked at her expectantly with a mischievous smile. So she forgets things when I kiss her? Adorable…
“I have something to discuss with you.” Takina looked at her seriously, folding her hands on top of her lap. “…Chisato.”
Chisato blinked at the sudden change of atmosphere, and it frustrated her that she didn’t even have any insights of what’s going on. She only tilted her head to one side in confusion.
“…I’m pregnant.”
Chisato blinked once, twice, as she moved forward a little and took Takina’s hand into her own.
“S- Say that again?”
Takina tugged onto Chisato’s hand as she looked at those confused and surprised amber eyes.
“I’m pregnant.”
“Wait, waitwaitwait, Takina. Usually, you tell people that with more grace, and celebrations, like a baby gender reveal or a baby reveal or something.” Chisato tugged Takina’s hand closer, making her sit closer into her embrace.
“What are those?” Takina only turned to her with a questioning gaze.
“Never mind.” Chisato grinned at her and gently wrapped her arms around Takina’s body, turning her around so Takina’s back is to her front. “Ah baby, huh…”
“Are you not happy?” Takina rested her back onto Chisato’s front as she turned around to look at her side ways.
“What in the bbq are you talking about?” Chisato moved her arms from Takina’s shoulder, gently wrapping them around her stomach.
“Bbq?” Takina blinked as she turned to look at Chisato’s hands on her stomach.
“I’m super mega giga happy! Hehehe~ A baby with Takina…” Chisato gently rubbed Takina’s stomach with a hand. “I’m… speechless.”
Takina smiled as she put her hand over Chisato’s that were on her stomach. “…Is that so…?”
“Wait! I can’t be speechless!” Chisato’s eyes suddenly widened as she suddenly removed her hand and grabbed something from her pocket. “Takina, Takina.”
Takina blinked as she turned around to look at Chisato.
“Usually… I’d prepare like, candles, or something but…” Chisato opened her hand as a small red box rested on her palm. She grinned at Takina before opening the small box. “Hehe~ Takina… will you marry me?”
Takina furrowed her eyebrows as she stared at the beautiful silver amethyst ring, then to Chisato’s goody grin, then to the ring once again. “…Yes!”
“Yay~” Chisato removed the ring from the box and swiftly placed the engagement ring onto Takina’s left hand ring finger. She held Takina’s hand on her palm as she stared at the ring… bringing it to her lips for a kiss.
“Chisato…” Takina turned to Chisato with water lidden eyes. “What do I do? I can’t stop… my tears…”
“It’s the pregnancy mood swings, maybe?” Chisato gently wiped away her tears and kissed her lightly on the lips. “I love you, Takina.”
“I love you too, Chisato.” Takina wrapped her arms around Chisato’s shoulders as they kissed sweetly. Enjoying each other’s presence, warmth, and love, after being away for a while. “When did you buy this…?”
Chisato leaned her back onto the couch’s arm rest, both legs up on the couch as Takina sat in between it while they cuddled. She leaned her jaw onto Takina’s left shoulder as she held Takina’s left hand on her palm, looking at the silver ring on her ring finger.
“I saw this the last time we went on a date, maybe roughly two and a half months ago? I thought it was pretty, like you and your eyes, so I absolutely thought I need to have it.” Chisato brought Takina’s hand to her lips and kissed it. She gently let go of Takina’s hand and wrapped her arms around her body, gently touching that still flat stomach. “So… I approached Kusunoki-san about a retirement.”
“Eh?” Takina turned around to face her.
Chisato smiled at her sheepishly. “I’m sorry if I lied. It wasn’t true that the DA was short handed, the truth was that Kusunoki-san said I should do my due diligence for two months… and then I’m free to retire with you after that… Ah, of course, only if you wanted to join me.”
“Of course I would… I can’t put this life in danger.” Takina leaned her head onto Chisato’s jaw as she touched Chisato’s hand that was on her stomach. “I thought it was weird when I handed in the exam results, why only you would be called if they were short handed…”
“Wait, Kusunoki-san already knows!?” Chisato blinked as she turned to Takina who only nodded at her. “Ehhhhh… So that’s why…”
“That’s why…?”
“She told me ‘Congratulations’.” Chisato turned to Takina as she hugged her tighter. “Anyone else know?”
“…Mizuki-san.” Takina blushed as she looked down on her lap.
“…?” Chisato blinked. “Oh… So those were morning sickness? That’s why you were always so up early in the morning?”
Takina nodded. “…I suppose Mizuki-san caught on that.”
“Geeeez! You had me worried! What if it was something else!?” Chisato rubbed her nose onto Takina’s hair. “How long have you known?”
“When I didn’t get my heat last month…”
“Wait, why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want it to distract you…?” Takina looked at her innocently. “And I wanted to be sure first.”
“Makes sense…” Chisato nodded. “A name… Have you thought of one?”
Takina shook her head. “That… I thought about asking the Manager.”
“Sensei?”
“He’s the closest thing to a father to you… so I wanted to ask him for a name. What do you think?” Takina smiled.
“You’re a genius.” Chisato grinned as Takina turned to her, their lips gently touching each other’s in a chaste kiss.
When purple met red after that kiss, Chisato gently lifted up Takina’s jaw for another kiss, a deeper and longer one. They haven’t had plenty of time for each other for the past two months, and finally a down time only for each other…
“Chisato… Something hard’s hitting me…” Takina half-opened her eyes as she immediately found herself already being pushed down the couch.
“I can’t help it… It’s been too long… Ah, speaking of that…” Chisato blinked.
“It’s… totally okay, you know?” Takina wrapped her arms around Chisato’s neck as she looked up at her. “…I asked.”
Chisato blinked. “Asked what?”
“Yamagishi-sensei…” Takina avoided Chisato’s gaze as she spoke in a small voice with a blush. “If sexual acts are fine, because I was pregnant… And she said, y-yes, they were fine.”
“O- Oh…” Chisato found Takina’s embarrassment contagious as her cheeks caught fire too. “It’s quite unexpected of you to ask that… You like this?”
“You… I like you.” Takina smiled as she pulled Chisato for a kiss. “It’s been a while, and I thought that you might want to know…”
“As expected of my soon to be wife… She knows me so well.” Chisato grinned at her and kissed her again. “…Please take care of me from now on too, soon-to-be Nishikigi Takina.”
Takina nodded. “Please take care of me, and the little one, too.”
~*
Takina shifted through the sheets as the relaxing and sweet scent of her beloved alpha wafted through her senses. She snuggled inside those warm arms before opening her eyes.
“Chisato?”
“Oh, Takina. Good morning~” Chisato kissed her forehead as she hugged her tightly. “A baby, huh…”
“Have not slept yet?” Takina yawned as she leaned her head onto Chisato’s arms closing her eyes to relax.
“Nope…” Chisato closed her eyes. “It still feels unreal to me. A baby… with you.”
Takina opened her eyes and turned to look at Chisato. “Chisato.”
“Hmm?”
“…Tomorrow, I have an appointment with Yamagishi-sensei. She said that if you came, she could do an ultrasound.” Takina touched Chisato’s cheek as she looked into those warm and caring red eyes she loved so much. “Would you come?”
“Of course, I will! I’ll be there every step of the way!” Chisato grinned.
“Then… It’s a bit sudden but… Could you please carry me to the bathroom?” Takina leaned her forehead onto Chisato’s shoulder as she put a hand over her mouth.
“Eh? Ah! Morning sickness? Wait wait wait wait!” Chisato immediately hopped out of the bed with Takina in her arms as she dashed for the toilet, both of them still stark naked.
Chisato held onto Takina’s hair as she rubbed her back gently up and down.
“Water?” Chisato asked as Takina nodded.
“Um… If you could please grab the dried raisins in the fridge as well.” Takina asked shyly as Chisato gently helped her up to the sink.
“Your cravings are raisins, huh~ That’s cute.” Chisato laughed as she walked towards the kitchen.
“Geez…” Takina sighed as she washed her mouth with water. She leaned her hand onto the sink and noticed the shiny ring on her hand.
She brought the ring to her mouth and gently kissed it.
“…A life, huh?” Takina smiled as she looked at the ring.
Some would say that life ends at marriage, but for orphans who grew up as assassins… Finally having their names on a family registry, it could just be the start all of them wanted.
Towards a road to happiness.
