A knock on wooden door. It was loud enough to wake up the person next door, but even though they knew that they still kept on doing it. Because she was an anomaly.
“Inoue. You’ve got a mission.” The deep voice that was nothing else but from Kusunoki, the commander of the lycoris.
“Understood.” Inoue Takina answered with a hollow voice, chained tightly with metal cuffs on her hands and legs to a bed that could limitedly only reach the nearby sink, toilet, and a table with a chair.
The chains clinked on movement. Kusunoki stared at the door with hesitation.
“You will be deployed outside, three cities apart. It is an assassination of a business man who holds dangerous secrets to the society. You will be escorted by another lycoris on this mission.” She told her sternly before leaving without a even waiting for her response.
“Three cities…?” Takina wondered as she stared at the ceiling of the dark room. So they’ve finally decided to get rid of me. How fitting of them not to dirty their hands.
She closed her eyes and waited as Kusunoki’s footsteps became farther and farther.
The DA(Direct Attack) is a secret organization of orphaned young girls with the latent ability to use the most offensive of all elements: fire. Those that awaken to other elements such as wind, water, lightning, were put in other divisions as support.
Until one day, someone awoken to an element more dangerous than fire… “Ice”. She was deemed dangerous, and at risk of rampaging, she was locked inside prison, privately tutored in the aspects she had to learn, shied away from society, called upon only for major assassination jobs for her precise and accurate bow skills.
The DA, and its two other branches did not agree with the idea that only a female has awoken to a unique element. In a world where alpha men are leaders, a sole Ice user, and an omega to boot, was not something they would ever show to the world. However, they did agree too one thing, and that was to making use of her status as an Omega, to reproduce a lot more of her own kind, given that latent elemental dispositions run genetically.
They wanted to find a LilyBell or another lycoris who would also have the same element in order to increase the chances… Unfortunately, mating nor finding a mate for her was not possible due to her ‘defense mechanism’ of freezing her surroundings, making her untouchable.
Now that they’ve found this danger, they’ve deemed that if they cannot use her powers to let her multiply, it would be best if no one else could take advantage of it.
However, the DA had a vow to protect their children. Kusunoki, who had different plans, viewed her powers differently.

“Haaaaah? A bodyguard mission?” A black-hood wearing white haired woman with part of her hair tied with a red ribbon crumpled the message paper in her hand before sending into flames, quickly into ash blown into the wind. “Just what are you doing, Sensei? You know I’m not one to do bodyguard duties…” She sighed as she headed back up the bath she had just descended, a pristine white katana scabbard peeking from under her black hood as her sturdy leather boots collided onto sand.
Meet me in the Diner at 4PM. I’ll bring the client’s order, and the mission details.
She looked at the Desert Diner that wasn’t so far from her location. With the intention to arrive early and talk to her father figure before the other party arrived, she hurried over as fast as she could.
~*
A tall dark skinned man with a combed-back long hair flowing down to his shoulders cleaned a glass before setting it to a glass stand. The chair near him that was on the counter moved, as a person in a black hood sat on it.
“Chisato.” The man turned to the black hooded person who had just removed the hood.
“Sensei. There better be a good reason for this.” The white haired woman referred to as ‘Chisato’ slammed a fist onto the wooden counter, her red eyes staring at him intensely. “I’d take any job any day, as long as it was not a bodyguard duty.”
“If it was a buddy, and bodyguard duty, would you have taken it?” He raised an eyebrow as he pulled a white cup from the counter, poured freshly brewed coffee, and placed it in front of Chisato. “This is a unique case, however, in summary, you’d be doing requests with this new person while you guard her towards the capital for the next five months, so she could assassinate an incoming person of interest.”
“Is this an unconfirmed tip?” Chisato sipped from her coffee. “I’d feel bad having to babysit some person, only for the intel to be kaput, you know?”
“The person you’re guarding is special. It’s that one they’ve been talking about within the DA.” Mika eyed the door as if the person could just walk in any time now. “…”The Ice Princess” as they call her.”
The door to the diner suddenly opened, as a person clad in a brown hood was escorted by two uniformed guards of the DA. The hooded person bowed at them as they left. The person slowly walked inside the diner, looking around the surroundings before walking towards the counter, purple eyes locking briefly into red, before shortly breaking eye contact to turn to the person behind the counter.
“Are you the manager?” Her voice was husky and low, it carried a bit of coldness in it.
“Yes.” Mika nodded.
Chisato watched the exchange as the brown hooded lady took something from inside her hood, and handed a piece of paper towards Mika, the sleeves of her hood slowly getting pulled back, revealing a few shackle marks on the lady’s wrist. She continued on sipping her coffee pretending to ignore it, but if this was ‘the Ice Princess’ there was no reason to have her hands tied with shackles, was there?
The story of ‘The Ice Princess’ was popular with everyone in the same industry of hitmen and assassins. They were a long-ranged bow professional who uses their ice element to imbue it into their arrows for a faster travel time, and a more lethal and incurable damage.
One could just imagine that she was treated like a ‘Princess’ as per her nickname. She was the first and only Ice wielder in their region, and she was being sheltered and hidden away by the DA, as not to reveal her identity to the public, given that it was also public knowledge that she was an omega.
Chisato’s thoughts were interrupted by the fragrant and sweet scent that was suddenly behind her, walking past her as Mika snapped his fingers in front of her. “Wh- What?”
“We’re moving to the tables behind.” Mika raised an eyebrow at a confused Chisato who suddenly finished her cup of coffee and followed. “Mizuki! Take the counter for a bit.”
“Fiiine!” Came in the perky and feminine voice from the rest area as the door opened immediately, followed by a blonde female with glasses.
~*
Mika closed the door to the diner’s backdoor room as the brown hooded woman took the inner seat on one of the benches and removed her hood.
Chisato has seen plenty of women in her life, but this one was striking. The long black haired that flowed down her back, the cold and emotionless amethyst eyes, the prim and proper manner… Not to mention she smelled extremely nice. She’d look really pretty if only she smiled…
With Mika taking the adjacent side of the table, Chisato sat next to the pretty stranger and removed her hood as well. She turned to the black haired woman who only watched her, curiously. “My name’s Chisato. How about you?”
“Inoue Takina.” Takina nodded at her.
“How old are you?” Chisato blinked at her, leaning an elbow on the table as she rested her jaw on her hand and faced her.
“I’m turning 19 this year.”
“Ah, one year younger than me… Well, no need to call me with -san. Since we’ll be working together from now on.” Chisato smiled at her, and Takina only nodded.
“With pleasantries aside, here’s your first mission.” Mika took out a folded paper from his pocket and opened it for the two of them to look. The two of them leaned forward and looked at the blank paper. He poured some water on it as the message appeared. “Takina-chan here, was given to us without receiving a weapon issued to her. Stay in the inn for the night, and shop for stuff you need for tomorrow. After that, head to these coordinates inside the forest.”
“Is it an interception?” Takina eyed the message that soon disappeared as Chisato burned the paper with a touch of her hand, the paper turning into ash.
Mika nodded at her. “That’s right. There’s an illegal bandit delivery in these coordinates in the forest. About four boxes of explosives. We have to intercept it and make sure they don’t make it to the next city.”
“Is this intel accurate?” Chisato raised an eyebrow.
“If you’re asking my opinion on it, I’d say about 90%. The information is from Walnut.” Mika explained and Chisato stayed silent, nodding, convinced.
Takina only looked at the two of them, confused.
“Ah, I’ll take you to see and meet Walnut tomorrow too,” Chisato smiled at Takina, then turned to Mika who agreed. “Are we good?”
“Yeah. If you have questions, let me know.” Mika stood up from his side of the table and turned to the two of them. “Best of luck.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Chisato sighed as Mika disappeared to the main door. “Do you have some plans after this?”
Those amethyst orbs only stared at her. “No,” came in the curt reply.
“Okay. Let’s go to the inn, then.” Chisato smiled at her as Takina only nodded. Not much of a talker, I see…
Mika had already booked them for the inn, two standard rooms. Chisato had guided Takina into one of the rooms.
Takina looked around, mesmerized at the fire place with warm fire, the warm carpet just in front of it attracting her attention as she went and sat on it.
“This will be your room. I’ll be in the next room if you need me.” Chisato pointed her thumb onto next door as Takina nodded at her. “If you need anything, just come over. Err… try not to run away.” Another nod.
Admittedly, Chisato found her behavior weird. She entered her own room and immediately settled her stuff near the bed, getting comfortable for the night.
The Ice Princess, so to say. The powerful Omega with Ice elements. One omega so powerful that she could freeze anyone beyond recognition at will on close contact. She was popular for her precise ice arrows and quick movement.
Chisato laid down on her bed as she looked at the wooden ceiling of the inn.
“An omega, huh…” She closed her eyes as she let the sleep takeover her. It was the first time she’s met an omega that left an impression, not to mention she couldn’t get the image of her injured wrists out of her mind.
They were scheduled to stay for about two more days as they prepare to set off the next city through the forest for an interception. Preferably, Chisato would want to walk instead of take horses, but that’s a good question for the Chisato tomorrow to ask the Takina of tomorrow.
~*
Chisato stretched her arms over her head as she picked up her sword and cloak next to her bed. She threw the cloak around her shoulders and closed the golden clasp around her neck.
“Guess the first stop is the baths… Grab some grub… Check the forest, plan attack, then go back.” Chisato nodded as she finished fixing her strikingly white katana scabbard around her waist, letting the cloak fall over it, hiding it.
She went to the room next door and knocked. She waited a while and didn’t receive a response, so she silently opened the door and knocked on it.
Chisato switched on the lights and noticed that the bed had been untouched, and that Takina was nowhere insight.
“Takina?” She looked around and noticed a bundle of cloak in front of the fire place.
“Ah, I’m sorry.” Takina rubbed her eyes as she sat up from in front of the fire place, stuffy and still wearing her cloak. “I’m awake now.”
Chisato blinked. There was no signs of her making the room livable. “Why are you sleeping there? Isn’t the floor cold and hard?”
Takina stood up from in front the fire place a bit hesitant to leave it, then put the hood over her head. “…I hadn’t know I could use the bed.”
Chisato raised an eyebrow. “I did say this room was yours…?”
Takina only tilted her head to one side as she stared at her. She looked around the room. “…? When I went into missions, I was never told to use the bed as to other people used them.”
“No, I mean, I said this room is yours…?” Chisato spread her arms open as Takina only watched her.
“…Yes?” Takina only blinked.
“Umm… Never mind. We’re staying here tonight. You can use that bed.” Chisato pointed at the clean bed.
Takina nodded. “Understood.”
“You don’t seem to have any luggage. I’m going to the baths, do you have a change of clothes?” Chisato walked further in the room, and there really was nothing. “A weapon?”
“I usually just wash the clothes I wear in clean riverbanks. I look for hidden spots and take a bath there.” Takina only looked at her. “I was also told to not bring a weapon, as to the people who escorted me carried them.”
Chisato suddenly felt like a mind splitting headache just came to her. They advertise ‘The Ice Princess’ as some cold, icy, princess, like some spoiled brat or something. To think that… she’s… this. What the heck is the DA doing?
“Chisato-san?” Takina stared at her.
“Ah, no, it’s nothing. We’ll buy supplies, clothes, and then get you a weapon. Okay?” Chisato opened the door after confirming to Takina their plan today with a nod. “Let’s go.”
~*
It annoyed her and somewhat comforted her. There was something about this woman, this person, this existence, that pulled her towards her. That’s what Chisato thought as they quietly walked towards the bath with the black haired woman following closely behind her.
They were going to the bath, grab some supplies, then scout the forest… Wait…
“I usually just wash my clothes in a clean riverbank.”
Chisato suddenly stopped walking as Takina’s shoulder lightly collided onto her’s. Red eyes looked at her curiously, before moving in lightning speed to untying the brown cloak she was wearing and lightly pulling it open.
To her surprise all she wore was a single white one piece dress together with her cloth boots. Chisato blinked as she took in the white skin on those exposed arms and clavicles unprotected by those thin shoulder straps. She felt her cheeks heat up for some reason before closing the cloak, tying it tightly.
“Th- That’s all you usually wear?” Chisato blinked as she looked at Takina who only blinked at her and nodded. What the heck…? “No armor? Anything?”
Takina shook her head. “I was always in a distance from my targets, I was told I would not need them.”
Chisato gritted her teeth as she felt a splitting headache. She needed to see Mika tonight, she needed more information about this girl. She won’t be able to rest at ease until she knew why she’s being treated this way. She quickly but gently grabbed Takina’s wrist and walked the opposite direction.
“Chi- Chisato-san? The bath is over there…” Takina hesitantly followed Chisato as she looked at the bath house.
“We’re buying you clothes and some protective gear first.” Chisato faced forward, her jaw tight in annoyance as they walked in a quick pace.
“Understood…” Takina looked at her, puzzled at the sudden change in her overall atmosphere. She looked angry, but the hand on her wrist was warm and gentle. She looked down at the roads as she remembered the cold steel shackles that usually were on her arms. “This is… a bit nice.”
Without a care in the world, Chisato splurged on a good pair of hunting pants, leather boots, some shorts, and a long sleeved turtle neck top together with some wrist and chest/elbow protector for her new companion. She included in a warmer dark blue colored cloak and brought it all towards the counter.
“Bill it to Bar&Diner LycoReco.” Chisato’s mouth curved up into a smile warmly, her eyes not following in a scary smile-scowl, at the armourer who could only blink and nod at her as they rung each item one by one. “Thank you~”
Takina only watched the scenario in confusion.
The two of them leave the Clothing Store and headed back the path way towards the bath without batting an eye. Chisato carried all the luggage as she grabbed Takina’s wrist gently as they entered the bath. She paid immediately at the reception and breezed through the bath house that was oddly empty at this hour.
Chisato started taking off her cloak, folding them slowly before stashing them inside a locker together with the pouches of clothing they had just acquired. She turned to the confused girl who only watched her.
“Okay. You need to take off all your clothes, except, those are going over there.” Chisato pointed at the trash area. “And you’re going to wear these.” She then pointed at the pouches on the floor.
“Are those the designated clothing for this mission?” Takina blinked as she asked.
Chisato pinched the bridge of her nose as she closed her eyes in exasperation. “This isn’t a ‘designated clothing’, okay? These are normal protective clothes that someone should be wearing at all times. Especially someone like you, an omega.”
Takina only turned to her, meeting those red eyes briefly before turning away. “Whether I’m clothed or not, it does not matter. No one can get close to me during my heats.” She murmured under her breathe as she removed her cloak, dropping to her feet.
Chisato was about to follow up a question on what she meant, but she felt her breathe being taken away by the beauty of this girl. Her long black hair that flowed down her back, the pretty face with those curious and yet, cold, purple eyes. The white skin, the slender arms, and legs that are barely covered by the thin white dress. If she was some teenager she’d definitely already be having a hard-on.
“Oh crap.” Chisato turned her body away as she gently cupped her nether regions. “I said we’re not a teenager! Settle down you!” She glared at her quite energetic ‘proof of alpha’ member.
“Chisato-san?” Takina called to her as Chisato jolted her shoulders in surprise. “Are you okay?”
“Y- Yeah! Uh… You can grab a towel there as you take off the rest of your clothes.” Chisato pointed above the lockers where a line of towels are arranged. “Make sure to wash your body and hair in the shower area before getting into the baths.” She panicked and started to remove her own clothes as to not look ‘suspicious’ but honestly, she wasn’t sure why she can’t control herself around this person.
“Understood.” Takina responded curtly as Chisato heard more pieces of clothing falling to the floor behind her, some shuffling and then footsteps moving away from her.
“Bad!” Chisato looked down at her actually extremely energetic member as she face palmed herself. “What am I doing with you?”
~*
Takina sat down on a short wooden stool at the shower area, she carefully turned on the shower as it started blowing warm water all over her body.
“It’s warm…” She looked down her thighs as the water continued dripping. She no longer remembers how long it has been since she’s had the luxury. All she remembers was once they knew her element and her second gender, their treatment of her changed and for the first time in a long time, she felt like someone cared for her.
Without realizing how long she had been basking in the warm shower, she suddenly heard quick footsteps and a dash ball of blonde canon ball into the baths as it made a big splash.
“Whoo!” echoed the cheerful voice. “You gotta do the things you usually can’t do if there’s plenty of people!”
Takina felt her lips curve into a smile at the childish behavior. Those intense red eyes, the charming smile, and the comforting scent… She has never met someone like her before.
She reached for the shampoo and placed a good amount on her hands before washing her hair. She grabbed a sponge and washed her body as well. It was one of those times Takina was glad she wasn’t bathing at a riverbank.
~*
Chisato sat calmly on the age of the bath after canon balling at its center (because it was fun). Thankfully she ‘took care’ of her ‘hard problem’ quickly, but there were no promises of it ‘arising’ once the other person comes and joins her for a bath.
As if summoning her, she felt a presence, and that sweet scent next to her, her gaze catching the sight of those thin ankles and the red lines around both of them as Takina stepped into the bath.
Chisato felt her blood boil at the thought of it. Even if she knew she was a stranger, that if she asked she’d probably be turned down, she didn’t like seeing them.
“Chisato-san?” Takina sat next to Chisato. “Is there something on my face?”
“Daaahh! Nothing! Sorry…” Chisato turned forward as a blush crossed her cheeks. Bless her wrapping the towel around her body. “Is this your first time in a bathhouse?”
“No… However, it has been a while since my last time.” Takina looked at the warm water as she smiled gently. “…Maybe about 9 or so years ago.”
Chisato found herself staring. It was nice when she smiled. “Well… You’ll get to experience this more nowadays then.”
Takina turned to the water as it flowed down her hands again, that gentle smile turning into a frown as she spoke in a soft voice. “…It would be nice if that were true.”
Chisato watched her intently as a fire burned inside her. An emotion she has not felt with anyone.
A desire to protect someone.
